São Tiago Church, Óbidos
São Tiago Church, Óbidos dates from 1186. Built during king D.Sancho I (known as “the settler and second king of Portugal) reign.
This wealthy church provided lodging for the royal family when needed.
Despite the 1755 earthquake´s destructions it was fully rebuilt after 20 years.
We underline the painting on the altarpiece depicturing São Tiago Maior and also a mannerist board from Luís de Morales (certainties about the author still questionable) that belonged to the primitive altarpiece that is exposed in the Municipal Museum of the Óbidos village.
